The 60th Anniversary of the Damming of Kariba

Dear Members,

An opportunity has arisen, at rather short notice, for us to hear a talk entitled “The 60thAnniversary of the Damming of Kariba – with some notes on challenges, current events, and the future.”  The talk will be delivered by Jono Waters on Sunday 25thNovember 2018 at 11.00 am at St Georges College Beit Hall and will be illustrated.

Jono will already be well known to many members through previous talks that he has given to the Society, as well as his fairly prolific output of a range of       historically related articles, all of them thoroughly researched, and most of which have been published (or will be) in the Society’s journal, Heritage of Zimbabwe  Jono is currently working on a book on the history of the dam, which will be published in May 2020, the 60th anniversary of the opening by      Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. In preparing for the book, Jono has been to Milan and has interviewed some of the families involved in the construction      of the wall and has solicited contributions from people who lived at Kariba.
